My husband showed this to me the other day and I nearly DID cry! It really spoke directly to a lot of questions I’ve had lately.

I honestly feel like I am the only woman in the world who feels this way.

I was traveling for my nephew’s blessing last September and did not get to hear the RS meeting live. I watched it online the following week while the men were at Priesthood. That whole week I’d heard everyone talk about how absolutely wonderful his talk was.

But when I heard it, it wasn’t anything new to me though. It wasn’t something completely revelatory. It was something I have been talking about with some of my friends for 6 or 7 years now, and to great lengths and depths.

I am glad that it was so inspiring to so many. Yet there were other talks during the Fall 2008 Conference season that touched me to the core instead.

There was a line from that talk I relly liked that was not in the clip. To paraphrase, it was “create a smile where there was not one before.”

When I was in high school many moons ago, I made a portfolio for a scholarship contest. The last page had the statement, “My goal in life is to be happy by continuing to learn, experience, serve and create.” I am an artistic person, so I often define my creative power as something I can physically make. I enjoyed Elder U’s reminder that not everything we can create is tangible. I think it is the intangibles that are more valuable and enduring.

Loved it! Thanks for posting this. My granddaughter and I watched it this morning. She’s my little clone. Although she’s only 8, I’m teaching her to sew. She and I have a room in my house that is our clubhouse and has 2 sewing machines set up for her and I. It warms my heart as my daughter had no interest in learning and my granddaughter walks in my house and is ready to go to work at creating. The creating process has been such a blessing in my life. It’s the icing on each day. I’m so glad that there has been a renewed interest in handmade.

Giggles, I agree that it wasn’t (in a sense) “revelatory.” It is not a new concept. (Although, I do love the way President Uchtdorf framed the message…) What spoke volumes to me is that Heavenly Father would inspire our leaders to give this message, over the pulpit, at this particular time. By the responses I’ve heard from all over the church, it was something the women of today REALLY NEEDED to hear. It validated, renewed, inspired, encouraged and comforted so many sisters in the church. Women felt like he was talking to them *personally*. When a talk is able to do that for so many people….
In my book,
it is remarkable.

And its okay that there were others that touched you.
That’s why the messages from our leaders are so wonderful. There is always something there for everyone if we are just willing to listen.

Yes. I did. Thank you. I had no idea this existed. I had taken the last line, “The more you trust and rely upon the spirit, the greater your capacity to create.” as my motto this year. But in the distractions of the day, it is so hard to remember. Thank you for connecting. I’ll pass it along.

I agree with Jenny. It was not new material for me. In fact, it was revelation I recognized, having dedicated a whole chapter to the same subject in my book “Awaken Your Spiritual Power.”

The wonderful part is that Pres. Uchtdorf was inspired to give that talk to the women of the Church. THAT inspired me.

It also validated me as a woman, a writer, and a believer in principles of creation and creativity I have always known to be true. Maybe I didn’t “need” the validation, but I sure liked getting it! (And I liked knowing that other women were getting it, too.)

What amazes me is that I went to the Relief Society session and remember this talk as a good one. Just like others have been really good and touched me in many different ways. Let it be said though of how you can take a talk, add some beautiful pictures, and inspiring music and amazingly the spirit touches your heart. Wow. Thanks to those that composed this touching piece. Music and pictures together are so inspiring you could take any talk and immediately it will sear the spirit with drive and purpose. Rather than remember the talk and where you heard it, put some ear phones in, turn up the volume, and let your heart embrace each creative piece that flashes across the screen with the echo of Pres. Uchtdorf’s message to fill your sensations combined with the beautiful words that breathlessly appear as a symphony of sound penetrates your heart and soul. What a beautiful gift to share. Thank you.
