Editorial Spotlight

I WRITE TO HONOR FEISTY MARRIAGES. “Honor” might be a bit strong, but let us get it straight from the beginning: a zesty relationship is the highlight of my life. I understand that not everyone feels the same, . . .

Detailed Bloggersnacker Directions

The nice lady at Murray Park gave me detailed directions and I thought I’d pass them along.  If you enter the park from 330 East Vine, pass the pool, and park in the next parking lot, there is a nice shady area near the playground for us to meet.

See you there tomorrow from 5-7 pm!

    I just want to say that of the people who contribute to Segullah I’ve only met Darlene Young, I was really tempted to come to this because I know I would like all of you. But I wasn’t thinking of my wish to come when I decided to toilet-train my daughter this week. (And I can’t just leave her with my husband since he’s on crutches at the moment.) Next time I will try to come though.

    P.S. “crazy ladies eating food and ignoring children” is what really made me feel I would fit in.

    Zina, I have read your comments here and on Darlene’s blog, and *sniff* we’ll miss you!!

  4.  c jane :: 8 Jul 2008 @ 11:51 pm ::

    Um . . . does anyone know if Mara will be there?

    Yes?

    No?

  5.  Zina :: 9 Jul 2008 @ 1:08 am ::

    Wow, thanks Emily, it’ll be consoling to feel missed while cleaning puddles from the carpet. (Also, I think my first sentence up there was supposed to say “although I’ve only met Darlene Young . . .)

  6.  Amira :: 9 Jul 2008 @ 9:46 am ::

    Will plates and utensils be there? Or if I’m bringing food that most people would use a fork and a plate for, should I bring some forks and plates along too?

  7.  Maralise :: 9 Jul 2008 @ 11:27 am ::

    I’m coming, cjane, yes I am. Are you?

    And I’ll pick up plates and utensils and bring some ice…so no worries on that front Amira. Amira! You’re coming? Yeah!

    Zina–Hey, you could always let the little one run around naked at the park. I wouldn’t mind. I’ll just pretend I’m still in Austria. ;)

    See you all there!

  8.  Emily M. :: 9 Jul 2008 @ 2:25 pm ::

    Mara, if you haven’t already bought plates and utensils, don’t, because I just picked some up (read Amira’s comment before you responded).

  9.  Maralise :: 9 Jul 2008 @ 3:07 pm ::

    Otay Em, I’ll bring cups and napkins. Thank you so much.

  10.  m&m :: 9 Jul 2008 @ 10:10 pm ::

    ‘Twas great to meet y’all. Thanks to those who put forth the effort to make it happen!

    I think there were still people I didn’t get to meet, though…sorry I missed you. :)

  11.  FoxyJ :: 9 Jul 2008 @ 10:39 pm ::

    I had a great time meeting everyone and, by special request, here’s the recipe for the dip I brought:

    “Cowboy Caviar”

    1 can black beans, drained
    1 can pinto beans, drained
    1 can corn, drained
    1 can Rotel tomatoes and chiles, drain off most of the juice
    chopped cilantro (half a bunch?)
    3 green onions, chopped (green and white parts)
    1 avocado, chopped
    1 packet Good Seasons Italian dressing, mixed up (or 1 cup Italian dressing)

    Mix everything together well and serve. You can even make it the day before eating it, but add the avocado last minute so it doesn’t get too brown. I’ve seen a bunch of different variations of this out there, so you can do different kinds of beans, like black-eyed peas, or you can add some chopped fresh tomato and jalapeno instead of the Rotel. Either way it’s yummy!

    Foxy J, I loved the dip, and I loved meeting you and m&m and whataboutmom and amira… I’m trying to remember the usernames and getting them confused with the real names. Either way, it was delightful. Thank you so much for coming and for being a part of our Segullah community.

  13.  m&m :: 10 Jul 2008 @ 2:58 am ::

    I love the NAME for the dip. :)

  14.  Kathryn Soper :: 10 Jul 2008 @ 9:29 am ::

    I loved meeting you, m&m, and I regret having had only a minute to chat with Amira. Let’s do this again soon. There were several people I didn’t have time to meet.

    Christina, you’re fabulous. Email me! kathryn_soper [at] segullah [dot] org.

  15.  Amira :: 10 Jul 2008 @ 12:13 pm ::

    Tahnks for the recipe, FoxyJ. It was so very good. And I had a great time last night. It was lovely to finally have a chance to meet some of you!

  16.  Justine :: 10 Jul 2008 @ 8:17 pm ::

    FoxyJ, I’m afraid you won for my fave food of the afternoon (although Tony Caputo’s was a close second!). Thanks for sharing the recipe. I’m going to buy some more avocados right now!

  17.  Darlene :: 20 Jul 2008 @ 4:24 pm ::

    Thanks so much for the recipe, FoxyJ. I loved meeting you and the others, too. (Sorry I’m late on this!)
