For the Welfare of Your Soul from Fall 2006

“But . . . but . . . I . . . want to show you something,” Katie says quietly. I have embarrassed her. She shows me a miniature Book of Mormon. Perfect for an eight-year-old to love. I finger the pages and listen to her tell me how her inactive grandmother found it when they were starting to paint. Katie asked if she could have it, and her grandmother obliged. The first person she wanted to tell about her new book was me, and I had yelled at her before she could show me.

Reflections on General Conference: Press Forward with Hope

6 October 2008 @ 01:34 | General Conference | 13 Comments

I’m going to make a confession. When the General Conference Challenge was first issued, I couldn’t think of any specific questions to bring to General Conference. I wondered if it’s because during the last six months, perhaps almost more than any other time in my life, I have been in a sort of ongoing process [...]

The Challenge

Can you feel it in the air? General Conference is just days away. And it’s about time.
Conference seems to come just when we need it, just when our collective well is running dry. What if it were one week later? We’d never make it!
I can hardly wait to spend the weekend in my pajamas, making [...]

This Weekend

6 April 2008 @ 22:05 | General Conference | 10 Comments

I should preface this by saying that my husband is out of the country — has been for a week, and will continue to be for another week.
It’s been a stressful 7 days.

Face of a Prophet

5 April 2008 @ 21:53 | General Conference | 11 Comments

During the Solemn Assembly sustaining I watched President Monson’s face. He had this look of deep humility, of awe, and also of acceptance.
Noticing President Monson’s face this morning was an answer to my prayers. I’ve had a hard time letting go of President Hinckley. I thought I was done crying about it, but the [...]

What spoke to you today?

5 April 2008 @ 20:33 | General Conference | 6 Comments

Don’t you just love how General Conference can be so personal?
Here are a few of my favorite moments:
I loved being able to stand as part of the Relief Society and raise my hand to sustain our new prophet.
Saturday morning session:
Elder’s Wirthlin’s talk about loving, accepting, belonging and coming back (and wasn’t it Elder Wirthlin [...]
