You can only do as much as your spouse is willing to support. I also learned that it is important to store what you will eat. I had 25lbs of lentils for fifteen or twenty years. I love the way the three-month supply has taken an important place on the stage of preparedness, because it's so practical at so many levels. Although I am no expert, and certainly not as organized with this as many people I know, I did create a blog to dump some of my different cooking ideas to help my ward, so I thought I would pass that along here, FWIW. We've got everything from the wind up flashlights and radios, to hand crank wheat grinders. I'm slightly insane about this whole thing. I just hope we never have to move -- moving all this stuff would kill me. But there is an incredible peace of mind that comes from knowing that we've got a food room that's actually full of food. If they sell it at Costco, we've got a load of it, that's been my storage philosophy (Italian marinated artichokes, anyone?) Spiritual preparedness is tougher for me. It's easy to buy extra food, it's much tougher to refine and purify my mind. I'm working on it... I think about preparedness a lot. I really look forward to reading what others have read. At the moment, we just moved and are trying to build our lives in our new home. I did come across a scripture that struck me very powerfully. I know we've all read it hundreds of time, but this really hit me hard. 1 Nephi 15:24 "And I said unto them that it was the word of God; and whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never perish; neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction." I really need to get our family scripture study back on track! Great topic. I really look forward to reading what others have read.
