Thank you for all your comments. Everyone seems to be at different places, but with the same intentions - to help our families.

The single most important thing that I learned about preparedness is that couples must be united. You can only do as much as your spouse is willing to support.

I also learned that it is important to store what you will eat. I had 25lbs of lentils for fifteen or twenty years. My kids might have eaten them if they were starving, but it is difficult to say for sure.

This is my calling right now in my ward, and it's a bit overwhelming, because preparedness includes many facets, and depends on many different scenarios.

I love the way the three-month supply has taken an important place on the stage of preparedness, because it's so practical at so many levels.

Although I am no expert, and certainly not as organized with this as many people I know, I did create a blog to dump some of my different cooking ideas to help my ward, so I thought I would pass that along here, FWIW. I also plan to get a workbook up there sometime via a file sharing program...my friend has an awesome tool that makes meal planning for 12 weeks a lot easier.

I think about preparedness a lot. We've got everything from the wind up flashlights and radios, to hand crank wheat grinders. I'm slightly insane about this whole thing. I just hope we never have to move -- moving all this stuff would kill me.

But there is an incredible peace of mind that comes from knowing that we've got a food room that's actually full of food. If they sell it at Costco, we've got a load of it, that's been my storage philosophy (Italian marinated artichokes, anyone?)

Spiritual preparedness is tougher for me. It's easy to buy extra food, it's much tougher to refine and purify my mind. I'm working on it...

Great topic. I really look forward to reading what others have read.

At the moment, we just moved and are trying to build our lives in our new home. I did come across a scripture that struck me very powerfully. I know we've all read it hundreds of time, but this really hit me hard.

1 Nephi 15:24
"And I said unto them that it was the word of God; and whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never perish; neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction."

I really need to get our family scripture study back on track!
