Between driving back and forth to the hospital (my hubby had an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday) and studying for finals, my illustrious agenda for National Poetry Month has been neglected. Don’t worry, we are going to hold another poetry contest next week (Rock. on. Rick. Walton). But, in the meantime, I thought I’d share a project that I’m working on for one of my classes.

I will be blogging for twenty days about the poet, Derek Walcott. Here’s a link to the blog. Feel free to read along. Comment.

Where are your monuments, your battles, martyrs?
Where is your tribal memory? Sirs,
in that grey vault. The sea. The sea
has locked them up. The sea is History.

—Derek Walcott, The Sea Is History
