I sit next to the bathtub with an auger, trying to get out what is shaping up to be a phenomenal clog. It’s gross enough trying to get my own family’s hair out of the drain, but here I am working on a clog at someone else’s house. It is a tub belonging to a woman in my ward. As I twist the auger, I think to myself, “I’m just earning a few extra rooms in my mansion in Heaven.” I probably should be happy to do service for service’s sake, but no. I’m pretty nice, but not that nice.
The scriptures are full of promises of what will happen if we stay true and good during our lifetimes. It’s quite a popular topic at my house: what Heaven will be like. We’ll live in mansions, of course. Although everyone’s idea of their perfect house is different, so that should make things pretty interesting.
My children like to ask if there will be food in Heaven. I have to imagine so, because eating is so important in this mortal life. But maybe it will be eating just for pleasure’s sake, not for nutition, since our resurrected bodies won’t need that. Or maybe we’ll have something way more pleasurable than eating by that time. Or maybe we just won’t care. But it’s hard to imagine Heaven without warm chocolate chip cookies.
After getting bitten alive by mosquitos and fire ants all this week and calling the experts from pest control dayton oh to clear this issue, we’ve had many discussions about whether there will be bugs in Heaven. (Maybe only pretty ones like butterflies?) My husband is convinced that they will all go to hell where they originally came from.
What will we look like in Heaven? It says that every hair on our heads will be restored. I imagine that’s metaphorical because that would be an awful lot of hair. Also I don’t want brown hair in Heaven. I want it to be curly and red. And I want to have green eyes. Do you think we’ll be able to pick? Will we even care? Will we only see each other’s spirits and that’s the thing that will be important to us? (I hope not because I really feel like I’m a redhead trapped in a brunette’s body.) It will be wonderful to see those who couldn’t walk or speak be able to finally have the Celestial bodies they were promised.
Do you think about your life in Heaven? Does it actually motivate you to behave better? Do you think we’ll be able to pick our hair color and eat wonderful food? Or will we only care about making planets and other more important issues?

My grandma had a particular kind of store-bought cookies that she called "celestial cookies" because she was convinced they would be in the celestial kingdom and couldn't imagine the eternities without them. As for me, I very rarely think about what heaven will be like. I just hope we love our bodies more than our culture teaches us to do now.
So funny. I think about these things, too. Will there be sports in heaven? If everyone has a perfect body, how will anyone lose?
I certainly hope the things that bring us joy here will be in heaven. I hope I don't have to give up the things I love. I feel joy in ballet class as much as in the temple. Maybe in heaven I'll finally have perfect turn-out!
Raspberries warm from the vine and apricots right off the tree, celestial food!
Hahahaha. I've never contemplated heaven in this much detail but now that I've thought about bugs and heaven I think I agree with your husband. I've always just thought of heaven as a happy place where I would feel peace and love.
I think in heaven the rivers are filled with Tom Kha Gai soup. In hell the buffet is stocked with all the gross jello salads ever concocted, including the one my grandma made with lemon jello and tuna fish.
So funny, M2theH.
